All mating’s are fully supervised by an experienced handler. Maidens can panic when they experience their first tie. It can considerably harm either dog if the tie is separate mid course which is why all matings are supervised. The welfare of both dogs is paramount.
We can artificially inseminate your Pug while you are here. This can quite often be less stressful for both the bitch and stud and also prevents the chances of infections being spread and can increase the chances of a higher litters as nothing is wasted. This takes around half an hour and no need for any sedation, it a very simple procedure and you will be with your Pug for the entire time. We always try to create as near to natural mating and we can artificially create a 10 or 15 minute tie to allow the semen to enter the cervix. Once again we will do two insemination's 48 hours apart.

Another common reason for artificial insemination in breeding programs is the geographic separation of the dam and sire. Champion stud dogs may have semen frozen and shipped throughout the country, especially if transportation of the female to the male's territory is not possible.
Young males often suffer from ‘performance anxiety’. Sometimes they can be helped with the bitch and a tie achieved. When this isn’t possible, rather than letting him lacerate, fatigue or overheat himself unduly without success, a skill fully managed collection can help the dog gain confidence and actually train him for a natural breeding career, rather than spoiling him for natural breeding.

For fresh and chilled semen, it must first be determined that the female is receptive and near the time of ovulation. After that determination, semen can be collected by manual stimulation.
Most successful semen collection begins with the introduction of a teaser bitch – a dog in heat but not intended to be bred that day. This will increase the success of the stimulation and result in higher quality semen.
Used correctly, artificial insemination is a useful tool in improving the overall quality of all canine breeds, allowing a wider range of potential breeding partners. If it is used to genetically eliminate undesirable characteristics (rather than bypass them), or to improve or potentate desirable ones, it will have a positive effect whenever used.

Accurately select the best time for mating
We use a Dog Ovulation Detector to detecting the best mating time for your bitch, this means there is no need for repeat matings as ovulation is detected before AI. This also helps us to identify silent seasons.
This tool can allow us to determine the best date of mating, even if external symptoms fail to indicate that. The device uses the relationship between changes in the electrical resistance of mucus and appearance of estrous. |
The Kennel Club Rules & Guidelines on Artificial Insemination
Prior approval is not necessary to register a litter produced by AI provided that all of the following comply, and that the AI involves non surgical insemination:
- All litters produced by AI will be subject to existing Kennel Club registration regulations.
- The General Committee will not normally accept an application to register an AI litter if the donor male is alive and domiciled in the United Kingdom, with one exception namely, that Irish Wolfhounds of 8.5 years or older and domiciled in the UK may be used as donors in AI.
- In the case of sterile dogs which have become sterile simply due to general degeneration, Committee will accept applications but normally only if the dog is over 12 years age (or 8.5 years for Irish Wolfhounds) and with appropriate veterinary support.
- Maiden sires / dams - litters produced by AI from maiden dogs or bitches may be registered, but the Kennel Club will not register a litter produced by AI from one of their progeny, unless the said progeny has already produced at least one registered litter naturally or the sire/dam subsequently produces a litter naturally post the AI litter.
